Last week I turned 40.
I know what you’re thinking – she’s admitting that?

A lot of women don’t openly go around saying how old they are. It can be rude to even ask how old somebody is on their birthday! Can you believe that?

I have no problem with people knowing I’m 40. I love celebrating it, I love cake. Let’s party!

Why do I feel so great at 40? I am feeling better than ever – physically and mentally.

I was talking to my trainer at the gym, and realized that I feel stronger than ever. I mean physically, I am probably in the best shape I’ve ever been in, right now, at 40 years old.

Don’t get me wrong, this has definitely taken a lot of hard work. I’ve put a lot of effort into keeping up with healthy workout routines and staying in shape.

I love sweating it out.

Whether it’s at spin class or lifting weights, you can find me in the gym at least five days a week! It’s easy to maintain a healthy weight when you are taking care of your body by stretching and exercising on a regular basis.

I also drink a lot of water.

This sounds so simple, but you’d be surprised how much of a difference it can make. Other drinks like pop or juice are filled with calories, sugar and unhealthy carbohydrates. Water fills you up with pure, healthy H20 and it’s a great way to cut down on your calories and leave you feeling less hungry.

I take care of my skin.

This is so important, especially as we get older! Living in Arizona, it gets really hot – all year long. Even though I’m used to it, I still use sunscreen all the time to protect my skin from those harmful UV rays.

I enjoy a healthy diet.

This affects everything – your mind, your physical well being and your skin. Nutritious foods can help you look and feel your best. I try to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins.

Some research suggests that a diet rich in vitamin C and low in unhealthy fats and processed carbohydrates might lead to younger looking skin. So far so good, I think!

Not only am I physically stronger – I’m also at a stronger mindset.

Part of the reason I’m openly sharing my age is because I’m comfortable in my own skin.

I love my life, my family and my friends. I am happy in who I am and what I’m doing with my life – encouraging others to be their best selves.

I have a lot to share, and I love making friends. But if not everybody gets me, that’s okay too. I’ve built my tribe with amazing people.

Ten years ago, I wasn’t so confident. I had a lot to learn. I was busy worrying about what others thought of me, trying to be who they wanted me to be – instead of embracing the person I already am.

Now I feel like the world is so full of possibilities. I am at home and alive in my own body.
I can only see it getting better from here!
